HistoricNorthland Company Delivers The Largest Streetlight Contracts in New Zealand

An 83-year-old electrotechnology provider with Northland roots, McKay, has come out on top in Auckland after winning the contract to deliver LED upgrades and maintenance to the super city’s central area streetlights. The new contract is McKay’s ninth long term streetlighting maintenance contract and has seen the Whangarei-based company become one of the largest providers of streetlight maintenance and capital projects in the country.

This win demonstrates the company’s growth in the Auckland region coupled with their superior offering, skilled teams and unique data-led work systems – with these aspects driving McKay’s expansion in the infrastructure maintenance market. McKay will deliver 19,876 LED upgrades and maintain a total of 35,000 street lights over the four-year contract and will be responsible for ensuring that the city’s assets are working to an optimal standard. The contract will be supported by McKay’s four existing Auckland branches, enabling the contract levels of service to be achieved – including response times, storage capacity and admin support.

Being a smart technology company, experienced streetlight contractor and a long-established New Zealand owned private company, McKay is unique in this market and possesses the business systems, IT infrastructure, and data-support programmes to deliver a complete end-to-end solution. These aspects put McKay in a front running spot during the tender process, with Auckland Transport expressing the need for a comprehensive electrical contractor.
With the Auckland central contract being McKay’s ninth long term streetlighting maintenance contract, McKay certainly aren’t new to the market and have been delivering streetlighting services for decades. McKay currently holds maintenance and upgrade contracts with eight other key New Zealand councils.
Lindsay Faithfull, Managing Director at McKay said: “The Auckland Transport central street light contract win demonstrates McKay’s unique service offering and position as a key streetlight solutions provider. We are keen to show our clients that our advanced solutions and systems deliver a seamless service whilst also being accompanied by a personal people-led approach. We are thrilled to be able to bring our street light contracting skills to Auckland and look forward to working alongside Auckland Transport to deliver an effective street lighting solution.”
The new contract began on September 1st.
