This International Women’s Day (IWD) we spoke to some of our female staff, who play a key role in New Zealand’s construction and services industry. The electrical field has historically been male dominated, however, having a diverse pool of talent is vital to McKay’s success. Hear what Chane Botha has to say about her experience as a Data and Project Manager in the electrical field and how we can #breakthebias…
Chane Botha – Data and Project Manager
What advice would you give to a woman working in the electrical industry?
Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. If you have a can-do attitude and a mindset of learning, you can gain an incredible amount of knowledge and confidence.
As a female Data and Project Manager what advice would you give other females thinking about joining the electrical industry?
Do it! Times are changing and you never know who you can inspire and be a role model for.
What do you enjoy most about being a Data and Project Manager?
I enjoy working with a great mix of colleagues and clients who respect the work we do. It’s awesome to see how our team works together to come up with high class solutions. Everyone’s positivity and team effort is amazing!
Who is your favourite female leader or role model and why?
Both my mom and sister. They never let life get them down and they are two of the strongest women I know.
What can both men and women do to help support females in the electrical industry?
Learning to not let our egos take the wheel and steer. You never know what you can learn from others when you have an open mind!
