McKay’s Very Own Mechanical Technician Takes on Tour Aotearoa!

Our Northland region’s Mechanical Technician, Rob Searle, is about to embark on one of the most rewarding and challenging journeys of his life – all in the name of charity! The mechanic, who has been with McKay for over 8 years will be cycling 3,000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff and will endeavour to raise as much money for Cancer Society Northland as he can along the way.

Rob will be in the second start wave and will begin his journey on Monday 22nd February from Cape Reinga – cycling through some of New Zealand’s most beautiful and renowned trails. He anticipates that it will take him 25 to 30 days to reach Bluff.

Rob was inspired to take part in Tour Aotearoa following the cancellation of a year-long motorcycle trip due to Covid-19. After sustaining a head injury in June, he was left unable to ride a motorcycle and quickly turned his passion for riding towards the humble push-bike. He will now embark on the self-propelled journey across the country – which Rob says felt like the perfect fit for him. Rob is looking forward to seeing new parts of New Zealand whilst doing his bit to support the Cancer Society. Whilst it is a long journey, he plans to make it through by ‘taking it day by day, kilometre by kilometre.’

The trip will commemorate both of Rob’s parents who sadly passed away from cancer, with raised funds going towards the Northland cancer charity.

Our teams at McKay are looking forward to supporting Rob as he cycles his way across New Zealand.
