Brad Hardy Electrician (1)

What is your role at McKay?
I am a qualified Electrician in the Northland marine department.

When did you start at McKay?
I joined McKay at the beginning of 2018.

Describe your role
As a marine electrician I work on a range of boats, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of electrical problems. I work on anything from installing and terminating cables for marine equipment and electronics, to completing the entire electrical scope for a switchboard, in a new build boat.

What do you enjoy about your role at McKay?
The variety of work. I work on a range of boats and am across the entire marine electrical scope. One week I could be fitting circuit control and monitoring modules, then the following week I could be working on a full lighting refit.

What has been your favourite project at McKay?

My favourite project so far was when I worked on the 58.2m superyacht Odyssey. We completed the entire lighting upgrade throughout the boat and made some other electrical changes. What I loved most about the project was having the opportunity to work on a large, high quality superyacht.

How would people at work describe you?
I have been told I am a very conscientious worker.

Three words to describe McKay?

Variety, banter, and interesting.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Wasting money on cars, expensive hobbies and having a few beers.

What advice would you give to someone looking to become an Electrician?
If you want to learn wide variety of electrical knowledge, then marine is the best option for you.
