Kevin Electrician

What is your role at McKay?
I am one of the Electricians in the projects team at McKay.

When did you start at McKay?
I joined McKay in February 2020.

Describe your role
As an Electrician, most of the time I work on a construction site. The daily job can be as small as pulling in cables, placing cable trays and installing electrical fittings; to more complex tasks such as switchboards installation, industrial automation system installation including PLC, VFD and field instruments, and faults finding and repairing.

What do you enjoy about your role at McKay?
One of the good things about being an Electrician at McKay is that there are always various kinds of projects to get involved in. It gives me lots of great chances to continuously improve my knowledge and skills.

What has been your favourite project at McKay?
I have enjoyed most of the projects I have worked on, however, the Kerikeri Wastewater Treatment Plant project was my favourite. This particular project was my favourite because it involved a range of electrical expertise including engineering design, switchboard design, electrical construction. This meant that there was no other electrical contractors involved in the project and it was solely completed by the McKay team. The project was completed in December 2020.

How would people at work describe you?
My coworkers would describe me as a helpful, hardworking person who works well under pressure.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, they are very important to me.

What advice would you give to someone looking to become an Electrician?
Always keep a positive attitude and have an eagerness to learn.
