Meet Gavin, Electrical Contracts Coordinator

Ever wondered what it would be like to work as a Contracts Coordinator in the electrical industry? We caught up with Gavin, who works as an Electrical Contract Coordinator for our Auckland Infrastructure team. Find out more about Gavin's role and life outside of work below 👇

GavinWhat is your role at McKay?
I work as an Electrical Contractor Coordinator in the Auckland Infrastructure division at McKay.

When did you start at McKay?
I began working at McKay in October 2021 so I am still a noob.

Describe your role
A major part of my portfolio relates to asset renewals and capital projects. To put it in a nutshell most of my daily tasks relate to planning, scheduling, coordinating and completing projects and/or streetlight replacements as per the contract with the client.

What do you enjoy about your role at McKay?
I thoroughly enjoy working on different projects, learning more about the industry and building relationships with our clients & suppliers.

What has been your favourite project at McKay?
This is my first job in a supervisory role, so I do believe that I have a long road ahead. Perhaps my favourite or most challenging project is yet come.

3 words to describe working at McKay?
Challenging, insightful, fun.

How would people at work describe you?
In my opinion, I believe my Regional Manager would describe me as someone who spends lunch breaks on tinder or shaadi.com. My Operation's Manager might describe me as the alternate IT guy. My co-workers might either love me or......(they don't get other options).

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I'm not at work, I enjoy reading e-books, watching football matches and catching up with friends. I'm learning to play the Guitar and also post poems or articles on my personal blog: https://coolcolaco.wordpress.com/

What advice would you give to someone looking to become an Electrical Contracts Coordinator?
I believe that anyone wanting to become an Electrical Contracts Coordinator would certainly need to be a quick learner! They would need to be able communicate well to staff as well as stakeholders and have a positive outlook.
